Recommended readings for 2020 by Nilson Bernal

As you know, I have a blog where Weekly I publish articles focused on management, leadership and various cases that I have gathered over my 25 years of career in hospitality and that, somehow, may be useful for those who work in this segment.

And i’m often asked where so much information comes from, inspiration and what tips I can contribute to growth, development, learning, area change, search for other positions within the hospitality industry.

Books, one of my great inspirations

Much of this comes from book learning. So today I will mention some works that I like to read and take a lot of information from great executives, thinkers, entrepreneurs, presidents and CEOs in the business world.

Through networks and social media, we have easy access to ask the great managers of the world what business books they read and can indicate to us. I’ve often done this and I don’t always have an answer, because imagine how many requests these guys shouldn’t receive daily, right?

Bet on biographies from various areas

I really like biography and read everything, not just management books, business, but I believe that all books have something to teach us

After all, regardless of your area of activity, at some point you will have to know how to transit and talk about all matters.

Successful managers make use of a lot of reading

It is nothing new that one of the main characteristics of successful managers and successful executives is to always learn and make use of a lot of reading.

Most executives, especially Europeans and Americans, read on average 3 to 5 books per month or 60 books per year, while we Brazilians read a lot of 1 book a year. And that needs to change if you want to reach the top.

I have prepared a list of the books I have read, recommend and have been able to extract from them great learnings in my hotel career. I hope you like it, leave your recommendations too and good reading. Oh, I left Amazon’s direct link to make your life easier!

We all have problems, whether of different order, in addition to many chores and responsibilities that consume us daily. Life is an eternal rush and we barely have time to do everything that really matters and we would like.

Many of us are constantly busy and working, traveling, studying a lot. But we should not put aside such a healthy practice: reserve the short time of your hours a week to do something you really like.

In my case, reading randomly to relax and learn through books. I identify that great executives and personalities seek this learning practice through books.

Make it a simple learning rule through books and reflect what you’ve learned. I’m never alone and I make it a habit that gives me great satisfaction to share with you.
