Decision making: strategies that worked for me

I leave you with some decisions I’ve made along the way in the hospitality industry.

There is no right or wrong, just what I believe is best for my life.

I am a co-founder of BymSchool and I left the outskirts of Foz do Iguaçu to continue trying to win the world. Learn a little more about the decisions I had to take to go a little further since my first entrepreneurial phase of selling watermelons in the periphery.

It is, yes, possible to overcome their difficulties and cross several barriers that life presents us, in my case especially social and economic.

And, yes, entrepreneurship is one of the ways to get out of where you were born (in my case one of them was the hotel business).

I hope that if my trajectory can inspire at least one person, I will already be happy to touch the heart of a human being. I keep looking for ways and alternatives and always standing next to great examples of entrepreneurship in Brazil.

One hour the yes comes

After trying so hard, eventually the YES comes, because all of us throughout our lives have to know how to manage the NOs in life that are not easy at all.

No matter what you already undertake or intend to undertake, what you need to have in your heart and in your attitudes is that your decisions must impact the lives of many people around the world.

My childhood went by very simply and I have always been looking for a place in the sun and that is called never giving up on opportunities.

daily fights

Since I was a child, tomboy, boy, village piá, I always stood out for being very persevering in my daily struggles.

Always studying and with books in hand, public school student following my path with guidance from Dona Margarida. Far from being a genius and hardly considered a brilliant student, I always continued to preserve my goals.

Here my decisions begin and one of them was never to give up and continue to undertake in myself, in my choices and career in the hotel business.

I always thought and keep thinking: what do I need to put into practice, execute, to make all the projects I envision real in the long term? With this, we are gradually realizing that our dreams go far beyond the false security we think we have in life’s jobs.

Do you want to pay the price?

Therefore, those who want to pay the price must make difficult decisions in their lives. Whatever you do, but think big about your project.

If you are able to see the pain of your market, and have any suggestions for this pain, you will quickly stand out in your area of expertise.

Those who know me a little better, especially during my entire career in the hospitality industry, know about my leadership capacity, influence in the environment and, above all, make companies able to deliver great results through teams.

This I call always valuing the human aspect in the corporate world.

Of all the decisions I had to make throughout my professional life, I made several mistakes, but I never, under any circumstances, decided to give up on my dreams.

Mistakes are part of our learning process and I have no right to get tired of anything.

Never give up

Don’t worry so much, you’ll survive. The great miracle of all this is not giving up to overcome all your crises and/or wrong decisions. Go back, stop, take a step back, cut situations and things, costs, expenses and readjust your way until the sea is calmer.

Making wrong decisions is part of it. But the key is to try to anticipate these moments.

I always see crisis and wrong decisions as a sign of opportunity and learning in my life. Bernal always reinvents himself, grows and learns with shit (sorry for the bad word hehe).

Therefore, learning and development never stop. Did I fuck up again? Well, let’s go to the next objective, which is to fix, fix, learn, evolve and follow…

I’m currently in the United States in charge of some projects and what I register for everyone who has come this far is that if you’re on a project, do everything to make your operation work without your presence.
Does your business work without your physical presence?

That’s right, in the corporate world, we call it corporate governance, but here between us, straight talk is: make your companies, your businesses, your management work without you needing to be physically present 24 hours, got it?

To be more direct with you all: work strategically. Form people and try to leave the operation of any business, because this will be your greatest achievement.

Ahead of one of my projects as co-founder & CEO of a teaching platform focused on the hospitality industry, what I never want to lose is my essence. I want to continue learning and sharing knowledge and learning, and the ability to deal with risks is, without a doubt, one of the biggest differentials of an executive, hotelier, entrepreneur.

Points of reflection that I bring to you who seek to undertake your career in the hotel industry or follow other paths, but who somehow are or will be entrepreneurs.

  • Understand everything about your business, study your market and undertake in areas you already operate (Hospitality for example). Maybe you make fewer mistakes and start right. And be aware that you must be hands-on.
  • Question, reflect, think, stop, analyze, go back, redo your strategies, values ALWAYS.
  • Friend and friend of the hotel industry, don’t settle down. Get out of your comfort zone every day, if you know what I mean.
