Being a teacher or serving as a counselor, a driver or supporter is much more than practicing a profession, teaching, applying and correcting tests. Like every profession, it requires a lot of effort, preparation, knowledge, study, research and dedication. In addition, it requires the professional responsibility, commitment and a lot of commitment.
Comparing teachers and hoteliers, both somehow know that their main goal is also to teach, since it encompasses the ability to know how to relate, empathize and understand the moment of each individual.
Professor, you have to know how to drive… Hotelier too.
Teacher has to follow … hotelier also.
Professor has to share his knowledge and experiences… hotelier does it every day.
Teacher has to bring information, make the other see, learn, grow and develop … hotelier also has this mission.
Professor has to show the best way, take the hand, have respect, understand the other… hotelier too.
For management to be more efficient and effective, the hotelier knows that it is essential to know how to lead his team, presenting to everyone its constant development, focused on improvements, performance, results, improvement in the provision of services.
Time, training and guidance
Be careful not to demand what people won’t give you. This is the biggest challenge ever existing and only over time, through a lot of training and guidance, it will be possible to overcome these difficulties of everyday life.
No matter the size of your company, your hotel, resort, it doesn’t matter if you’re a kindergarten, elementary school, high school, college, university, post. In all professions it will be necessary to know and recognize each employee, each student and treat him with respect, attention and understand the moment of each one. Only then will you be able to retain the talents, whether in the company or in the classroom.
Dona Margarida, my best teacher
I had several teachers, both in formal education and in hospitality. My greatest teacher was undoubtedly Dona Margarida Machado who, even without knowing how to read and write, gave me the greatest teaching that a human being can receive from her mother. “Assume your mistakes and failures, no matter the consequences and never take a bullet that doesn’t belong to you.” In fact, I wrote an article about how Dona Margarida taught me the value of work through a box of sireper and watermelon.
In hospitality, in addition to an article I made especially about the leaders who inspire me, I will always make a point of repeating: Alceu Vezozzo father and son, Paul Sistare, Christer Holtz, Elias Rodrigues, Jorge Duarte, Gustavo Jarussi, Various owners, investors and hotel shareholders who had the honor of working and learning from everyone.
I’m always learning and this happens every day, with mrs. Maid, cleaning up to the owners, hotel owners. He who claims to know everything and not allow himself to learn more is doomed to failure. Everyone at some point has something to teach us.
To all teachers from all areas, my eternal thanks.
