I always come across professionals who ask me if it is possible for the leader to motivate someone. And I say that the executive, whether in hospitality or in any other professional segment, should embrace the idea of seeking to serve as many example so with his team.
Employees need to be inspired to be able to deliver more than expected of them. Therefore, I believe that inspiration through example, added to daily motivation, can contribute to your team being more productive.
How to create a motivating environment
To create an environment conducive to motivation, the manager needs to anticipate market trends and bring to the company a vision of results. I suggest you talk to your employees and your staff, because constant dialogue is critical to the success of any project within the company.
Currently, no one follows someone else if they do not know why they are performing a particular task. So involve and get people to join the company. Your team has to believe what you say and do.
Any and all leadership demands a very large personal investment, seeking a goal and walking a path along with their talents within the organization.
Management doors open
So no hiding strategic data. We need to talk openly, adopt transparent management, integrating and valuing everyone. This is fundamental to the sustainability of the business. The moment you strengthen the culture of dialogue in a broad and unrestricted way, with respect to differences, we begin to experience the good relationship and that’s all in an organization. This includes adopting open door management, receiving suggestions, knowing how to take advantage of criticism made in a judicious and respectful manner and value what is said by everyone in the company.
I used to say my mother.
Margarida Machado, my mother, has always been a great example in my life. Even with its limitation and simplicity, he taught me how to do what is right and respect everyone. I observe that sometimes people put their position ahead and demand respect and that they are treated as managers and leaders, but unfortunately, on a daily basis they do not practice what they say.
The word leadership requires willingness to listen, receive people, talk to them, help, guide, direct and have a daily posture and conduct of access. Employees have to rely on the leader in order to deliver a service provision to the height of our customers. Otherwise they don’t.
Leader develops people
Being president of a large hotel complex, I cannot afford to lose the vision of always reinventing myself in the business, adding value to the company beyond the financial result, but valuing the capacity and talent of the people who work here daily.
My role requires a lot of responsibility, motivate, encourage and provoke in people that they are, yes, able to do more, deliver more, grow and develop more so that (if they want) to take on new roles within the hotel company.
Overcome yourself every day
A hotel manager, a leader, in addition to seeking to be an example at all times, must overcome his fear and insecurity himself and believe that, yes, it is worth all dedication and effort in his career, while difficulties are part of the whole process for his growth and development.
Leadership needs to be exercised today, now and not tomorrow. So overcome your challenges today, celebrate your achievements, engage your employees, work with the best, value who is committed to the business, change or replace those who play against (regardless of who you are).
Plus, study, read, allow yourself to learn daily. You’re going to make a mistake, you’re going to make the wrong decisions, fail at some point, but that’s normal in any career.
Adapt, take risks, positions, make, erre, invent, be flexible, make a climate of confidence in your management through your posture and daily conduct. That’s leading, that’s motivating.
